Week in Review

We had a super exciting week in 4th grade! Our channel 4 News4Schools story should be airing soon. I will pass along the air date as son as I get it. I will also be sure to send out the link to the online story too!

Since I am out of the classroom today, I've typed up a quick review of our week rather than having our student broadcasters. We'll be back to student led updates next week.

Math - Students continued their work with situational division problems. At this time, no concrete division strategies have been explicitly taught. Students are using their understanding of multiplication and division to explore these situations and are working to find solutions to these new problems on their own. It's been really neat to see all of the different ways they've come up with to solve a division problem. Be sure to ask your child which strategies they've tried in class.

Social Studies - Students began their research projects on the Late Native American tribes that once settled in Missouri. Students are working in teams to create presentations for the class. Be on the lookout for finished presentations next week!

Science - Students continued their study of water with Ms. Hof.

Reading - This week we wrapped up our Non Fiction unit. Students worked with research teams to present the information they learned about their natural disaster and then presented their research to the class. On Thursday, readers took the end of unit assessment where they showed all that they learned about summarizing and identifying the main idea of a Non Fiction text.

Writing - We are officially in the revision stages of our personal essay! Writers worked this week to select and add strong transitions to their essay. Students also learned how to write a strong introduction that will hook their reader.
